To motivate voters, especially the youth, comedian Kapil Sharma is being roped in by the Delhi election commission to cast votes on 10th April for the Lok Sabha election.
Along with other two celebrities, cricketer Virat Kohli and film star Soha Ali Khan, Sharma woo the voters to go to the polling booth on election day, said an election official Friday.
Friday evening Sharma said in a press conference: "Every citizen should come forward and participate in the polls."
He said there is a need to inculcate awareness among the people about their voting rights and to understand the importance of their vote.
He added "People need to understand that only if they come out of their homes and vote for the right person that a strong democracy can be formed."
Delhi`s chief electoral officer Vijay Dev said that various new initiatives are being taken to woo the voters in the capital.
"Special voting awareness campaigns among the women residing in rural parts of Delhi are being organized," he said.
Dev told in the occasion "We want the election to be like a festival day in which every citizen should come forward and exercise their voting right."
