Even though the Kerala state is high in literacy, but the state still suffers with mortality rate of child among tribal. As per the health officials, one more infant died on Monday in Attappady area here taking the toll to 15, which increases the concerns about the ill-health and malnutrition among tribal children.
In Attappady, which is one of the largest tribal settlements in the state registered the death of the five-month-old boy yesterday along with two more deaths registered last month, rise the toll to 15.
Also, officials said that the infant in Kottamala settlement in Sholayur died at a hospital in Coimbatore yesterday.
The boy, suffering from ailments caused by malnutrition, was first admitted to a tribal super specialty hospital in Palakkad but later was shifted to Coimbatore for better medical care, they added.
While going through the last year count, a total of 73 children, including newborns, died in Attappady due to malnutrition and other reasons.
Though central and state governments have initiated many relief packages for the well-being of tribal's, child deaths are still a major concerns in this region.
