Pop star Shakira thanked the World Cup for making her meet with her love of her life, Gerard Pique

The two lovers first met when Shakira was promoting her 2010 World Cup anthem, Waka Waka for Africa and they now have an 18-month-old son, Milan, together.

Speaking ahead of her closing ceremony performance on Sunday night, the singer said that she "will never forget that I met the love of my life at the World Cup," reports said.

Moreover, she thanked football for her son.
