Some times you may face error in your FileZilla or FTP client on windows or mac.
The error will be like given below. Here is the solution for it.
Your may either see an error like given below or filezilla fails to retrieve your web directory even when it is successfully logged into the server.
This issue can happened in your Cpanel/WHM web hosting account or in VPS/Cloud or your linux web server.
Error in FileZillaThe following error can be seen in your FileZilla log/details box
Code:
Command: MLSD
Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
Status: Disconnected from server
Follow the 2 Steps given below to Resolve FTP “Failed to retrieve directory listing”
Step 1: Add site in Site manager and Change Encryption MethodYou may change the encryption method for the ftp connections to your server. To do this go to Site Manager in FileZilla (File > Site Manager) & under General tab of your ftp client, select
New Site and give a name >>next Enter
Host >> Select Protocol
FTP - File Transfer Protocol >> change the encryption type to “Only use plain FTP” .
Step 2: Change Transfer ModeNow change the “Transfer mode” in your FileZilla configuration. To do this, go to Site Manager (File > Site Manager), click on “Transfer Settings” tab and change Transfer mode to “Active”
Save the modifications by clicking “OK”. Now re-open Site manager and double on the New Site name we have given earlier. This will start an FTP connection to your server.
It's very easy to fix this. If the above steps is difficult, Follow the procedure in the image to fix this issue.
